The north "bunkhouse" on the north bldg roof was very leaky. Over the past few months it's been rebuilt. This thread is starting late in the project and will cover just the tail end of it.

Steve Wilson reports:
Brandon Hamilton (Architect) and Gary Gilligan (contrator) finalized the "details" on waterproofing and reconstructing the bunkhouse. Gary had flashing fabricated and this week installed some of it, along with special waterproof wrap and adhesives. The door and jamb are installed, and adjacent deck reconstructed. The siding should be completed this next week.

Steve Wilson reports:
Hello folks, here is the cumulative bill to date on our bunkhouse repair from Gary Gilligan. We have now exeeded the $15,000 we initially authorized but are close to the end. Brandon's design evolved over time, and we opted to get a very expensive replacement door which accounts for much of the ballooning.
The final design is very impressive, and we have six layers of weatherproofing:
- Self adhering membrane (vycor).
- Metal flashing.
- Liquid flashing.
- Two layers of 16 minute paper (tarpaper).
- Battens (rain screen).
- Siding.
It looks as though it will repel water as well as a submarine! Gary estimates about $1,000 or slightly more to finish.
Quick update: bunkhouse repair is nearly complete. Gary Gilligan has a "punchlist" of a half-dozen items left to do. Meanwhile Dave is painting the door.

Per David Swanson, Brandon was here on Friday 11/19 to inspect the latest work on the bunkhouse.
I just saw Gary Gilligan on the 5th floor. He has been working on the bunkhouse. Work will probably be interrupted this week by the rain that's expected.

Gary promises to finish installing the siding on the east side, secure the threshold and install a door bottom, and install weatherstripping on the exterior of the door—all by end of day today.
After that, the only work left will be on the west edge.
